Do what you love

‘If you want to play the game, you should start a podcast, a vlog, heck, get on TikTok if you haven’t already!’

This is something that well-meaning millennial marketing experts might tell you and, if not them, your own ego will, that little voice inside your head telling you what you should or shouldn’t do.

Why start a blog in 2020?

There are many ways that I could second guess this choice but the more I think about it, the more it feels right.

‘If you channel your energy into something that you genuinely enjoy doing, you’re going to experience a feeling of flow, that gloriously seamless feeling of time passing by when you’re doing something that you love.’

I’ve always loved writing.

I was an avid reader as a kid and this led to me writing short stories in primary school and to countless diaries started in earnest, but never finished.

This evolved into a passion for foreign languages and to my first career as an English language trainer in Europe. After that, I took off my teacher’s hat and later led the communications team at a Swiss startup.

This brings us to today and the Bravely Blog.

When you start a business, people outside of it will always want to share their solutions and quick fixes with you, because they just want to help. However, as you have probably experienced yourself, most of us don’t want to be sold solutions, we want to find our own way.

If you leave with a single message from this, it would be to embrace what you naturally feel good doing and build that into your business.

If you love having real and raw conversations with people and could talk for days, have you thought about starting a podcast?

If you love producing video, Instagram Stories or TikTok videos, then I want to see them.

If you’re a writer, like myself, then start that newsletter you’ve been putting off, publish that blog or start a Sunday love letter to your email list (à la Yoga with Adriene).

If none of this is for you and your strengths and passions lie elsewhere in the business, you could think about how you might outsource your marketing.

The point is: if you channel your energy into something that you genuinely enjoy doing, something that you choose for yourself, you’re going to experience a feeling of flow, that gloriously seamless feeling of time passing by when you’re doing something that you love.

And that is worth pursuing in any field of business.

The intention behind the Bravely Blog is to encourage people to have brave conversations with themselves and with others and to provide value through reflection exercises, coaching questions and links to things that help and inspire me. You can also expect musings and lessons from my own personal entrepreneurial journey.

Yours bravely,
